CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION

C-61/D-64 Animal Damage and Bird Control

The following list of typical tasks represents the work performed by an Animal Damage and Bird Control Contractor under the authority of a D-64

Non-Specialized subcategory of the C-61 Limited Specialty Contractor Classification as authorized under 832.61CCR and as approved by the California Department of Consumer Affairs Board as policy.

ANIMAL DAMAGE CONTROL

Animal Damage Control work is performed both on structures and on the surrounding property for the purposes of removing and/or excluding nuisance or dangerous wild animals. The work can be done for prevention or remediation purposes and it can be of either a temporary or permanent nature. The following ADC tasks are typical of the work performedin this field.

1. Conduct comprehensive inspections or surveys to understand animal behaviors while on the property, e.g., why the animal is attracted, how and where it gains entry, what it does while in the structure, what damage has been done, etc.

2. Develop a work plan designed to effectively deal with the identified wildlife management problems.

3. Screen roof jacks, eave vents, foundation vents, and other potential entry points using half inch or quarter inch galvanized hardware cloth to exclude such animals as raccoons, tree squirrels, opossums, skunks, feral cats, pest birds and other unwanted wild animals.

4.Trench and screen perimeter of decks, porches, fences, etc. to exclude burrowing and digging animals such as skunks, gophers, moles, ground squirrels, etc from gaining entry beneath structure.

5. Seal gaps and holes in siding and roof to exclude bats

6. Construct one-way doors allowing unwanted animals to exit the structure but not to re-gain entry.

7. Set traps or other capture devices into and onto structure to remove pest animal(s) prior to making necessary exclusion repairs.

8. Install new devices onto structure to frighten nuisance animals. Such devices can be mechanical, chemical or electronic.

9. Clean and sanitize surfaces of structures damaged by pest animals removing and/or replacing soiled materials as warranted.

10. Remove offensive animal odors in structures by finding and removing source of odors and then neutralizing affected areas.

11. Prevent animals' access to structure by cutting back tree limbs away from roof, removing vines from siding, removing or neutralizing adjacent structures.

12. Replace or repair shingles or shakes damaged by raccoons or squirrels attempting to enter structure and build nests

13. Seal gaps under garage door, utility room doors, furnace room doors, electrical meter box doors, to prevent animals from squeezing beneath these gaps.

14. Remove animal nesting materials or fecal matter from gutters and downspouts.

15. Cut out access panels in sheet rock walls or ceilings to gain entry or to remove dead animals or other offensive biological materials.

BIRD CONTROL

Installs a variety of new devices on buildings in order to physically prevent the perching, roosting, resting, loafing and/or nesting of nuisance birds (e.g., bird spikes, coils, wires, low impedance electric tracks, sticky gels, and similar devices) and/or employs visual or auditory frightening devices to repel birds from buildings.

1. Install bird spikes or wires onto gutters to prevent bird perching and clogging of gutters and downspouts

2. Install bird wires and brackets onto roofing tiles and shingles in order to prevent bird perching on roof ridges

3. Install low impedance electric track and wire systems onto buildings to provide nuisance birds with a harmless shock conditioning them from using building

4. Install bird netting supported by aircraft cable and hog rings across, over or under building openings or roofs in order to exclude nuisance birds from entering spaces designated for protection

5. Install zippered access doors into bird exclusion netting in order to allow for maintenance of lighting, air-conditioning, heating and other building systems

6. Install wires and rods on billboards to prevent bird perching

7. Install revolving stainless steel rods on flat open spaces to prevent usage by nuisance birds spaces to prevent

8. Install stainless steel wires or polyethylene twine to form grid patterns over roof to prevent birds from landing

9. Install vinyl strips in doorways to exclude nuisance birds 10. Install various visual, audio and taste deterrents such as plastic owls, mylar flash ribbon, bird kites, scare-eye balloons, electronic bird distress emitters, etc. in order to frighten nuisance birds away from building

11. Apply various cleaning solvents onto building surfaces in preparation for installation of bird control products

12. Access building treatment areas by extension ladders, boom lifts, scissors lifts, bosun's chairs, etc.
